At two years of age, Monica had arm and hand surgery, and at the age of 13, she had spinal surgery to correct scoliosis. We invite you to read Monica's continuing story of her struggles and strong determination to learn and enjoy life. Initially, we developed this website to simply provide information and encouragement to other parents with a special needs child. As Monica has gotten older, we have encountered new challenges, adapted to changing needs, and continued to acquire more experience and knowledge. And so, this site has evolved and expanded in scope. In order to more effectively share this increasing volume of resources and information, we developed Special Needs Family, a web site devoted exclusively to resources for families with disabilities and special needs. |
The Special Needs Family newsletter offers articles from parents and professionals on a wide variety of topics relevant to families with disabilities and special needs. Subscription to our newsletter is free! Also please join our eGroup and meet other families online. |

Exceptional Parent is more than a magazine. We are dedicated to providing quality, reliable information for people with disabilities and special needs. For 33 years, our mission has remained unchanged: to provide practical advice and emotional support to families, physicians, allied health care providers, teachers and caregivers who are involved in the care and development of people with special needs. EP was recently designated as the publisher of The Presidents Report on Mental Retardation, complete with the seal of the office
of the President of the United States of America. We are also proud to say that EP is now the official family magazine of the American
Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry. EP has continued to publish your stories; stories of parents and families who sacrifice everything and stop at nothing to provide the highest quality of care and support for their loved ones with special needs. We remain grateful for the work that you do and for your willingness to share your experiences with us. You inspire us all and are, after all, the reason for our existence - heroes in every sense of the word. |
